People ask me what it’s like to constantly “live with spirit.” They wonder if I can read minds or if spirit is constantly talking in my ear? I think sometimes they imagine a little angel on my shoulder chattering away in a non-stop staccato as I go through the day.
The simple answer is that I am no different than anyone else. Spirit does not communicate with me all the time, unless I specifically set out to channel a psychic or mediumship reading.
This does not mean that I only have a connection with Spirit while I am busy doing readings. Like everyone else, I am also guided by my intuition or spiritual inner guidance in my everyday life. Because of the nature of my work, I may simply have a stronger or clearer intuitive connection than the average person.
There have been times when I have been very happy with my connection to Spirit. It can be especially useful when there’s a caution or warning coming through to protect or even save me.
One time, while driving down a 16-lane highway, I suddenly swerved across several lanes to take an earlier exit, without any warning to a friend who was following behind me. She knew me well enough to immediately recognize that this odd driving maneuver was unlike me, and also knew that there was probably a psychic explanation for it.
When we got to our destination on the other side of town, which took longer than usual because I left the highway earlier, she looked at me with a knowing grin and said, “Next time, could you ask your intuition to give me a little more notice before you change lanes?”
I was unable to give her any logical reason or rational explanation as to why I had changed lanes. It was not until I overheard the news on television later that evening that I realized what had actually happened. Without questioning it, I had instinctively followed my gut and, as a result, avoided a major multi-vehicle pileup that had occurred further ahead!
There have also been times, too numerous to mention, when I have intuitively slowed down for no apparent reason, only to see a friendly police officer with a radar gun pointed in my direction. Several of my passengers have been very impressed with my amazing foresight. Little did they know that I was simply following the guidance of my higher self.
Intuition is an essential guiding force in our lives that helps us navigate the complexities of life. It is a deep connection to our higher self, the spiritual energies around us, and the Divine. It is a subtle yet powerful inner guidance tool that influences our decisions, perceptions and interactions in ways that are not always immediately apparent.
Our intuition is a source of deep wisdom, a source of insight that transcends the limitations of logic and reason. It speaks to us in whispers, nudging us in certain directions, urging us to trust our instincts and embrace the unknown. By honing our ability to listen and interpret this inner guidance, we can gain clarity, find purpose, and cultivate a greater sense of alignment with the universe.
Intuition is a navigational compass that guides us through life’s complexities. It transcends the realm of rational thought and offers a deeper connection to the inner self, the spirit realm, and our higher power. It’s a channel through which we receive divine or spiritual messages, whether through gut feelings, signs or symbols. It transcends the boundaries of logic and reason, allowing individuals to tap into a deeper spiritual consciousness for insight and direction.
Intuition serves as a conduit to access our inner wisdom and universal consciousness. It is a source of profound knowledge and insight that transcends the limitations of conscious thought. It is the innate ability to tap into our higher self and a broader perspective that enables us to gain clarity, foresight, and deeper understanding. It also protects us from harm and danger.
Intuition has helped people in many ways throughout history. There are numerous documented examples of how intuitive premonitions have saved lives or guided people in meaningful ways.
A fascinating example is the story of the Titanic. There are several accounts of people who canceled their trips or decided not to board the ship because of inexplicable feelings of foreboding. For example, a British journalist named William T. Stead had a dream in which he saw the Titanic sinking and shared it with friends, expressing his concern. Even though he had a first-class ticket, he ultimately decided not to board the ship.
More recently, there have been reports of people avoiding the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, based on gut feelings or vivid dreams. Their intuitive decisions saved their lives on that fateful day.
In aviation, there have been several cases where pilots have reported feeling uneasy or having a bad feeling about a particular flight, leading them to request maintenance checks or delay takeoff. In some cases, these decisions were later found to have prevented potential disasters.
In 1983, Stanislav Petrov, a Russian military officer, defied protocol and followed his intuition to recognize early warnings of successive U.S. missile launches in the Russian detection system as false alarms. His decision is credited with preventing nuclear war between Russia and the United States.
In 1940, Winston Churchill was dining at 10 Downing Street when a German bomb landed nearby. He ordered his staff out of the kitchen. Moments later, another bomb fell, obliterating the kitchen.
Steve Jobs, the CEO and co-founder of Apple, saw himself as one of the few people who understood the importance of intuition in creating technology. He explored the teachings of Zen and Buddhism during his time in India in the 1970s, where his intuitive awareness was inspired by the spiritual gurus with whom he studied. He saw that people in India were not purely rational thinkers, but were guided by intuition.
These are just a few examples of how intuition, whether through dreams, premonitions, or unexplained feelings, can play a crucial role in guiding people toward safety or the greater good.
Intuition manifests in different ways and is experienced uniquely by each person. Typical intuitions that people experience include:
STRONG IMPRESSIONS
Some intuitions are clear and unwavering feelings, hunches, or impressions about certain situations or decisions. These gut feelings often come without conscious thought or reasoning and guide us toward the best course of action. Intuition also manifests as a clear sense of knowledge or certainty, also known as “claircognizance. You may feel an unwavering belief in a course of action or decision, even without conscious thought.
RECURRING THOUGHTS
Some intuitions present themselves as recurring thoughts or ideas in our mind, gently nudging us in a certain direction. These persistent mental messages can be subtle or very direct, providing valuable insight and guidance.
SYNCHRONICITIES
Spirit may orchestrate seemingly random events, known as synchronicities, to align with our life path. These meaningful coincidences can serve as signs and confirmations that we are on the right path.
INTUITIVE DREAMS
Spirit and our higher self also communicate with us through vivid dreams and inner visions, offering guidance and wisdom. Because we receive these messages through the subconscious while we are asleep, they are usually presented in a symbolic or metaphorical manner. These dream messages must then be deciphered through intuitive introspection, reflection, and meditation.
PHYSICAL SENSATIONS
Intuition often manifests as physical sensations, also known as “clairsentience,” which can be subtle or pronounced. These bodily signals are a way for spirit to communicate with us, offering guidance and insights that our rational mind might miss.
Common physical sensations associated with intuition include a tightness or churning in the stomach, a feeling of lightness or inner peace, sharp or tingling sensations in different parts of the body, increased heart rate or breathing, muscle tension or discomfort, chills or goosebumps, and a sense of warmth or energy flowing through the body.
It’s important to note that everyone’s experience with intuition is unique. Some people have a stronger connection with their intuition and may receive clearer and more frequent messages, while others may need to cultivate their intuitive awareness and practice listening to their inner guidance.
To expand our intuitive awareness and increase the clarity of the guidance we receive, it is essential to consistently build our connection with spirit and maintain our alignment with the universal flow. Developing intuition and learning to make the most of your spiritual guidance is a personal journey that requires self-awareness, mindfulness, openness, and daily practice.
Increased intuitive awareness is primarily achieved by adopting a regular spiritual practice or psychic development routine that includes one or more, preferably daily, activities that may include the following
MEDITATION
Meditation is probably the most commonly recommended practice for developing intuitive awareness because it quiets the mind by reducing mental chatter and distractions, creates a calmer emotional state, and heightens awareness.
Meditation also promotes a deeper connection with the inner self, fosters a stronger mind-body connection, and cultivates an open and non-judgmental state of mind. Regular meditation practice quiets the rational, ego-mind and creates space for inner awareness and reflection.
Different types of meditation can be used to develop intuitive awareness, each offering unique benefits. Experiment with different meditation practices and observe how each one resonates with you. It’s beneficial to incorporate a variety of the following techniques into your routine for a well-rounded approach to intuitive development.
Mindfulness Meditation: Focus on being present in the moment, observing thoughts without judgment. This meditation method increases awareness of thoughts and feelings, and provides a foundation for recognizing intuitive insights.
Loving kindness meditation (Metta): Cultivate feelings of love and compassion for yourself and others. This meditation practice opens the heart chakra, fostering a positive and compassionate state of being that increases the intuitive receptivity of the collective unconscious.
Body Scan Meditation: Gradually scan and release tension from various parts of the body. This physical meditation technique increases awareness of subtle sensations and promotes a mind-body connection that supports intuitive insight.
Guided Visualization: Download or stream pre-recorded guided meditations that visualize specific scenarios or places. This type of meditation not only heightens your imagination and inner imagery, providing a platform for symbolic and intuitive messages, but is also one of the easiest and simplest ways to start meditating if you’re new to the practice and don’t know where to begin.
Transcendental Meditation: Use a mantra for focused attention and transcendence. This meditation technique creates a deep state of inner stillness, allowing intuitive insights to emerge during and after practice.
Chakra Balancing: Focus on each of the seven primary chakras or energy centers in your body, visualizing the colors and flow of energy. This meditation process balances and aligns the energy centers, promoting a harmonious flow that enhances intuitive abilities, especially in the crown, third eye, heart and solar plexus chakras.
Breathwork: Practice controlled, mindful breathing. This meditation technique calms the mind, increases oxygen flow, and supports a centered state conducive to intuitive awareness.
Zen Meditation (Zazen): Sitting in a specific posture, focusing on the breath or a koan (paradoxical question). This meditation tradition encourages deep concentration and mindfulness, laying the groundwork for intuitive insight to emerge.
Sound Meditation (Nada Yoga): Focus on external sounds or use internal sounds (such as a mantra or humming). This approach to meditation deepens concentration and helps individuals attune to subtle vibrations and intuitive messages.
MINDFULNESS
Mindfulness practices, such as deep breathing and non-judgmental observation, increase your awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations, making it easier to recognize intuitive prompts.
Make it a habit to stay present in the moment and pay more attention to your gut feelings and intuitions. Pay attention to your sensory impressions – sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. Raising your awareness of the world around you opens up new channels of intuition.
Spending mindful time in nature is very conducive to connecting with your inner being and something greater than yourself. Immerse yourself in the beauty and serenity of nature to open your heart and mind to the voice of spirit within.
Exposure to abstract art and music is equally powerful in developing intuitive awareness. Highly conceptual or surreal creative expressions tend to bypass logic and rational understanding to awaken deeper levels of intuitive insight, inspiration, and understanding.
Engage in practices that resonate with you, such as prayer, energy healing, or connecting with spiritual communities. These practices can help you further tap into a deeper sense of guidance.
DIVINATION
Experimenting with divination tools such as tarot and oracle cards, runes, pendulums, and the I Ching can be a powerful aid to your intuitive development. Choose a divination method that appeals to you and feels right for your intuitive development. Don’t hesitate to explore different divination tools to see which one resonates best with you.
When using divination tools, frame your questions in a way that allows for open-ended answers. This will encourage your inner guidance to provide more nuanced and insightful answers. When interpreting, always trust your first reactions and impressions.
Be patient and open-minded during your divination practice. Trust that the messages and insights you receive, even if they seem subtle at first, are contributing to the development of your intuitive awareness.
Like any skill, developing intuitive awareness through divination requires regular practice. Make divination a consistent part of your routine to build a stronger connection with your intuition.
JOURNALING
Keeping a journal helps you keep track of your intuitive experiences, dreams, and synchronicities. Reflect on these experiences to identify patterns, themes, and recurring symbols that may hold special meaning and provide spiritual guidance. Reflecting on your experiences can bring clarity and help you see patterns. Also reflect on past experiences and the lessons they’ve taught you.
SELF-CARE
Prioritize your physical and mental well-being by eating nutritious foods, getting enough sleep, and engaging in regular physical activity. A healthy and balanced lifestyle is essential to cultivating stronger intuition.
Remember that developing intuition is a gradual process. Be patient with yourself, keep an open mind, and embrace the journey.
Spiritual guidance is omnipresent in our lives, and the Divine, our Higher Self, Angels, Spirit Guides, Ancestors, and loved ones on the other side can help us every step of the way as we navigate through life. However, while Spirit is omnipresent, it does not automatically intervene in our daily lives without our free will consent.
Except for rare instances of divine intervention when God, Source, Spirit, the Divine, steps in to encourage or protect us (often from ourselves), the rest of our life journey and the fulfillment of our soul plan is our personal mission and responsibility. Spirit will rarely intervene. However, Spirit is always available to guide, inspire, comfort and protect us if we ask for help.
Our higher selves choose the relationships, circumstances and growth challenges we wish to experience on the earth plane. Spirit, meanwhile, watches with interest as we navigate the twists and turns that we orchestrate for ourselves as evolving souls. Spirit will only come closer to coach or assist us when we specifically call upon a higher power for help.
Once we ask, it is given. Spirit will then step forward to protect us, answer our questions, inspire us with ideas and solutions, and so on. Much of this guidance is given to us as inner guidance through intuitions, hunches, or gut feelings. Spirit also guides us in the most beneficial direction through signs and synchronicities.
For example, you will know that Spirit is moving forward when you suddenly feel a nagging doubt about whether you are making the right decision. Or you may hesitate before picking up the phone to send that text or make that phone call. Or you may feel a knot in your stomach or a general sense of dread when you enter a place.
When you experience such an intuitive feeling, stop and acknowledge Spirit’s presence, and then pay close attention. It is important to acknowledge to Spirit with gratitude and an open heart that you are receiving the sign or signal.
As a rule of thumb, remember the old adage: “When in doubt, don’t! You can always change your mind and do it later. Doubt is a signal from your higher self to gain clarity first. Ask Spirit to help you gain insight or discern your best options. Only take action when you feel comfortable or when your sense of joy and inner peace returns.
Trusting one’s intuitive insights is paramount in interpreting spiritual guidance and probably the biggest challenge we face in terms of our intuition. It requires a leap of faith, an unwavering belief in the profound wisdom that comes from within. Intuitive messages often manifest as subtle nudges, gut feelings, or flashes of inspiration that prompt you to make a decision or take action.
Trust that your intuition and spirit guidance will lead you to your highest purpose and align you with your true self. Embrace the journey of self-discovery and transformation guided by your inner wisdom. By accepting and trusting these insights, we open ourselves to the transformative power of our inner spiritual guidance. The interplay of faith and intuition paves the way for a profound understanding of the interconnectedness of the universe and our place within it, catalyzing a deeper level of everyday spiritual awareness.
The more we practice our intuitive awareness as a natural part of our daily lives, the more we expand and improve the flow of inner guidance we receive. Over time, the fine thread of information that Spirit provides becomes thicker like a thread, and over time the thread becomes a strong rope, and eventually a powerful metal cable! Spirit will always use the strongest path or channel possible to connect with us more quickly and easily. It is our responsibility to ensure that we provide the strongest possible connection.
Will you make mistakes? Of course you will! You are on the earth plane to learn and grow. You will expand your knowledge by course correcting as you gain more experience. Do not expect to be perfect. Also, do not expect Spirit to solve all your mundane, everyday problems or remove all challenges from your life. Without the daily hurdles, obstacles, and setbacks, we will not learn and grow, and soon life in this physical world will become meaningless and very boring.
As your intuitive awareness expands, you will become increasingly thoughtful and make wiser decisions with much better results. You will become more confident in your ability to listen to your inner guidance and follow your intuition. You will increasingly choose joy and happiness over negativity and worry, and love over fear. And you will manifest more abundance, prosperity, and well-being in your life. A spiritually conscious and intuitively aware life is a life well lived, with the best possible outcomes for your highest good and the greater good of all.
Ultimately, when it comes to trust, your greatest lesson will be learning to trust your higher self. From there, the world is your oyster, and you will attract the right people and opportunities into your life to help you navigate the twists and turns with joy and confidence.
